Knights avenge last seasons loss to the Redhawks

The Reading Knights opened the season with a home game against Solent Redhawks. Last year Solent finished with a record of 6-2 making the plate system. Last year the Knights visited the Redhawks in what was a close contest with the Redhawks coming out on top 20-6. This year with the Knights having a great rookie intake and retaining most of their veterans looked to avenge this result when Solent visited Bulmershe. The game was a great contest with the Knights looking good on offence, defence and special teams. Solent got onto the scoreboard on their first drive with some good work on the ground. After this the Knight defence stood firm allowing only a few 1st downs the rest of the game. The Knights offence looked very productive both on the ground through rookie running back Liam White and makeshift running back Alex Hughes as well as Ed Hopkins spreading the ball out hitting multiple receivers for big gains throughout the game. Special teams also had a big day with Alex Hughes taking the 2nd half kickoff for a TD.

The Knights have their first away game of the season against Solents local rivals next, the Southampton Stags this coming Sunday. The Stags won last week 52-48 in a high scoring affair against BNU. Southampton were 7-1 last season and will be a hard test for the Knights as both teams look to go 2-0 and make that push for the playoff.

Scrimmage with the Renegades goes well

On Saturday 22nd of November the Reading Knights faced off in a scrimmage against the local senior team the Berkshire Renegades. The Renegades won the Division 2 south west conference beating the eventually winners twice during the regular season. This game gave some of the Knights rookies there first chance of a real game situation in a competitive environment. The scrimmage was play in good spirit however this didn’t stop plenty of hard hits from both sides. At the beginning the Knights struggled on both sides of the ball however towards the end of the scrimmage started to compete moving the ball effectively on offence and making several stands on defence.

Alumni Fund enables the Knights to get a full set of brand new Helmets

A huge thanks goes to Reading University Alumni fund for giving the Reading Knights just under £10000 to spend on new state of the art helmets. Reading Knights members Nick Bevan and Ed Hopkins put in a successful application for money to get new helmets. The money has been spent on Rawlings Quantum helmets.

The Knights look to bounce-back immediately away to the Imperial Immortals this weekend. The Immortals are currently undefeated with a record of 2-0 so far this season conceding only 7 points. Last year the Immortals were won 19-6 against the Knights in the last game of the season so the Knights are looking to avenge this and press on with the fight for playoff places.
